The magic of the cup

This weekend has re-afirmed my faith in the FA cup, with a selection of good matches and upsets happening.

Manchester United went out to the might of Portsmouth after (shock of shocks) a penalty was arwarded at Old Trafford.

Barnsely having knocked out five time european cup winners Liverpool have knocked out Avram Grants Chealsea with ex Cheltenham forward Kayodi Odejayi grabbing the winner.

Bluebird Cardif City knocked out a very lackluster Middlesborough, and as I type this I await the final FA cup match of the weekend as baggie boys West Brom take on “The Gas” (a.k.a.) Bristol Rovers for the final semi final spot and a chance to go to Wembley.
So whats going on??? Are the big prem teams  not taking the cup as seriously… well if we look at Manure’s and Chelski’s teams yesterday you would have to say that they certainly are. It may be that the smaller teams (and I mean this in a loose sense when it comes to Portsmouth) are upping their game in the cup as they realise they have a chance??? Personally I just think its down to luck… there can be no other logical explination.
The law of avergaes dictates that every now and then a shock will happen (Newcastle Hereford anyone?) but to have this many in one weekend let alone one cup is amazing.

Other than that my beloved Oxford United crashed to a 3-0 home defeat to Burton Albion to leave them 15th with one or two games in hand on most around in the table.  I for one am gutted at the results since new manager Darren Patterson has taken over, and I feel there may need to be a change somewhere in the club to see some progress…. ah well.
